Promoted by the Firefighters Memorial Trust, the Annual Service of Remembrance pays tribute and recognizes the commitment and dedication of all United Kingdom firefighters– and those serving in British overseas territories – particularly those who have died as a result of their duties while serving the community.

Tribute to Lost firefighters

Representatives from West Midland Fire Service will be attending the memorial event and laying a wreath, paying tribute to firefighters who have been injured or lost their lives in the line of duty.

West Midlands Fire Service crews have also been invited to lower flags to half-mast and observe a minute’s silence at 12 noon on May 4th, 2019. This is to pay tribute to, and remember, those who have died or have been injured as a result of carrying out their duties while serving their communities.

Firefighters’ Memorial Day

Roy Wilsher, Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council will also be attending and representing the UK fire service. He commented, “It is an honor to be laying a wreath at this year’s Firefighters’ Memorial Day on behalf of the National Fire Chiefs Council. This is a hugely important event for fire services across the country, as staff – both serving and retired – come together to give thanks and commemorate the bravery of firefighters.

The Firefighters’ Memorial Trust is hoping as many serving and retired personnel as possible will support Firefighters’ Memorial Day, including parades at fire stations or other premises, and to observe the minute’s silence. The annual service of remembrance takes place at 2pm at the Holy Sepulchre church in London. The parade and standard bearers will start their journey at 15.15, and the wreath laying will follow this.
