Fire protection in Sydney’s south-west has been boosted by the arrival of a state-of-the-art fire truck for the Rosemeadow Fire Station. The Scania P320 Class 3 Pumper is valued at $950,000 and will replace the station’s existing appliance that has served the community faithfully over the last 15 years.

The new truck is built to Euro 5 standards to reduce emissions and keep firefighters safe. The engine’s cabin can seat up to five firefighters and allows them to exit the appliance already wearing their breathing apparatus, saving valuable seconds during a response.

Significantly reducing water usage

The vehicle will be highly visible, with firefighters conducting engagement activities to keep their local community safe. It features a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) which allows the truck to significantly reduce water usage, allowing a more efficient dispersal of foam and water and reducing run-off when extinguishing fires.

Emergency Services Minister, Jihad Dib, said the truck is one of 20 new appliances to be introduced during FRNSW’s $18.6m Fleet Replacement Program of 2024/25.

Purpose-built fire engines

It is the latest investment in emergency protection for the people of Sydney’s west and south-west,” Minister Dib added, “We’ve already heralded new fire trucks at Penrith, Smithfield, St Marys and Huntingwood, as well as the opening of new fire stations at Oran Park and Busby.”

Another station and three trucks have been funded for Badgerys Creek, to protect new homes and businesses, and the Western Sydney airport.” FRNSW Deputy Commissioner – Strategic Capability, Megan Stiffler, said as Sydney grows, so too does its fire protection. “Our Fleet Replacement Program doesn’t replace ‘like for like,’ it introduces better, modern and purpose-built fire engines that will be ‘Prepared for Anything’ well into the future,” Deputy Commissioner Stiffler said.
