Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have been kept busy overnight with a number of large fires across the State.
Just before 6.30 pm yesterday, FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a multi-storey unit complex in Regent Street, Kogarah.
Eight trucks and 32 firefighters responded as a precaution however the fire was extinguished by a sprinkler system. One person was assessed by NSW Ambulance at the scene.
Multiple fires
At 10.00 pm, FRNSW assisted NSW RFS at a fire in Herons Creek Road, Herons Creek on the Mid North Coast
At 10.00 pm, FRNSW assisted NSW RFS at a fire in Herons Creek Road, Herons Creek on the Mid North Coast. Crews from Laurieton and Port Macquarie helped to extinguish the blaze in large shed which contained a manufacturing business.
An hour and a half later, at 11.30 pm, FRNSW was called to a house fire in Hilary Parade, Matraville, following reports of smoke issuing from the bedroom on the second level of a three story home.
It took firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which completely destroyed the bedroom. Three people self-evacuated and were assessed by NSW Ambulance.
Late-night fires
At 12.30 am, FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a house fire in Dan Street, Merrylands. The home was significantly destroyed however firefighters were able to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties.
Four people self evacuated and one person was treated by NSW Ambulance. Investigations are continuing into the cause of the blaze.
On the South Coast, just after 2.00am, firefighters were called to a fire in a mower shop on the Princes Highway at Unanderra. It took crews more than three hours to contain the blaze and although a third of the property was completely destroyed, firefighters managed to save a significant amount of stock. Investigations are continuing into how the fire started.

At 7.40 am, FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a house fire in Siandra Avenue
At 7.40 am, FRNSW received numerous Triple Zero (000) calls to a house fire in Siandra Avenue, Fairfield. Whilst en-route to the incident, firefighters observed large volumes of smoke and requested additional resources.
In total, nine trucks and more than 36 firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze in a single level granny flat which had spread to the adjoining two-storey residence.
Three adults and two children self-evacuated and were treated by NSW Ambulance . Both properties suffered significant damage and investigations are underway to the cause of the fire.

With the large amount of fires overnight, FRNSW is reminding the community of the importance of having a working smoke alarm.
